Data Engineer - Active Secret Clearance

Job Summary:

NavAide is seeking a skilled Data Engineer to lead and manage data engineering initiatives. This client-facing role is crucial for supporting the Navy’s mission by ensuring the integrity, availability, and security of data assets. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in data architecture, data processing, and analytics solutions. The Data Engineer will work closely with various departments to design and implement data solutions that enhance operational effectiveness and decision-making capabilities.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Building data ETL and ELT pipelines in Navy/DOD common data environments such as Advana/Jupiter for use in reporting, dashboards, and/or modeling
  • Responsible for maintaining and debugging data pipelines, including deep dives into root causes and implementing solutions for failures
  • Conducting research, EDA, and quality checks to ensure the integrity of the data and resultant tables
  • Creatively developing database documentation and leveraging automated metadata collection techniques while detailing upstream transforms when necessary
  • Dissecting complex SQL queries to optimize and repurpose is a must-have
  • Collaborating with non-technical stakeholders to gather and refine data requirements

Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of demonstrated experience delivering robust data and analytical solutions using PySpark, SQL, and/or Python in big data instances such as Databricks or Snowflake
  • Active DOD Secret clearance
  • Deep analytical acumen with the ability to balance multiple projects and maintain key stakeholder engagement
  • Experience developing self-service analytics using tools such as iQuery and Redash
  • Effective communicator, independent thinker, and self-starter
  • Working knowledge of BI tools, such as Qlik, Tableau, and PowerBI is preferred
  • Navy financial data experience
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in one of the following fields: Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, Operations Research, or similar technical degree
  • Master’s degree preferred. Additional experience may not be substituted for a degree
